Meaning of human resource department
The HR department is a requirement in every industry, educational or not. It is the body that is responsible for hiring skilled individuals. They considered various factors, such as the skill set of potential employees, the workload, and job criteria.

Mostly, the human resource divides all activities grouped into four types of staff members- Group A (Creators of a school software system such as the LMS portals, school principal, etc), Group B (School teachers, office staff), Group C (Security members, staff who set up smart classes before students and teachers arrive) and Group D (cleaners).
This division is done to allow HR departments to differentiate the groups according to their influence on the school environment, and the role they have to play.
Functions of the school HR department
The process of recruitment is very lengthy and generally follows 3 stages. The first stage is reviewing the CVs of applicants. These are categorized by checking whether the skills and experiences match the qualification requirements. The second stage is interviewing teachers and other staff members to observe how they perform in a school environment. And the last stage is testing them out for a day. This stage is relevant only for teachers because they have to give a demo class to students.
Students also play a role in the last or third stage of recruiting teachers because they gave feedback on how they were capable of grasping concepts the teacher taught in the demo class, with the HR team.
Recruitment is not only about finding the right people who fit the goal, but also about appointing individuals who can focus on the long-term goals of an institution and adapt to the changes it goes through.
The human resource of a school consists of teachers, nonteaching staff such as group C & D staff members, librarians, and a lot of other members. The payroll for every employee is not the same, and hence it can take a long time for office staff at the end of each month to process payments. Because it is the human resource department that is capable of recognizing which payroll is whose, since they were responsible for hiring these members, the HR department also takes up the task of processing payments and providing accurate reports to the school information management system for storing payment details.
Teacher performance management
A school can advance only if the teachers and students are performing well. student performance plays a huge role because it is the direct outcome of the efforts made by an institution. To ensure that students perform well, our department oversees the work of teachers often. The school information management system along with the HR department can improve teachers’ performance in the following ways;
- Documenting measures taken by teachers, and using scorecards for every teacher as per their performance.
- Assisting teachers who are lagging to help them improve their performance as per professional standards.
- Arranging seminars, webinars, and training or development programs.
- Guidance, and counseling for teachers who face burnout or difficulties in performing better.
Creation of a safe school environment
An effective human resource management system will incorporate all the basic functioning of a school system, and ensure that it creates a safe school learning environment. This is possible only when all the recruited members of the institution work together, as guided by the human resource department.
In conclusion, a human resource department is not only one of the most effective bodies but also the influential one that decides the future of the institution.
